Do You Lose Your Bail Money If You Are Found Guilty?

Do You Lose Your Bail Money If You Are Found Guilty

If you paid the court directly, you get your bail money back regardless if you are found guilty or not, so long as you showed up to your court date.  Bail money is not a fine or fee, it is money given to the court to provide assurance that you will show up for court at your appointed court date.

Does Bail Money Get Refunded?

Yes, if you paid the court directly, you get your bail money refunded. If you used a bondsman or bail bond agency, then the money you paid them to front the full amount of bail belong to them and it is not refunded. So if your court appointed bail amount is $2,500 and you paid a bail bond agency 10%, or $250; they are putting up the full $2,500 on your behalf and the $250 is the fee they charge for their service.
